John Kronstain Named Principal of Jackson-Via Elementary
Mr. John M. Kronstain has been selected to become the principal of Jackson-Via Elementary School starting July 1. Kronstain was previously the school’s Assistant Principal and has served as the school’s Interim Principal since March.
“Mr. K has served admirably as the school’s Interim Principal and I am excited for him to take the helm permanently,” said Charlottesville City Schools Superintendent Dr. Royal Gurley. “I also want to thank our search committee members for their steadfast work in identifying the best candidate for this important job.”
Kronstain has been with Charlottesville City Schools since 2015. In addition to serving as Jackson-Via’s Interim Principal and Assistant Principal, he has worked as a school counselor at Walker Upper Elementary School, and as an assistant principal at Charlottesville Middle School (formerly Buford) and Tall Oaks Elementary School (formerly Johnson).
Prior to joining Charlottesville City Schools, Kronstain served as a collegiate, high school, and middle school music teacher. Kronstain holds degrees and certificates from James Madison University, the University of Virginia, and Virginia Commonwealth University.
“I am deeply grateful for the trust that Dr. Gurley, the search committee, and the Jackson-Via school community have placed in me to serve as principal,” Kronstain said. “Charlottesville City Schools has been my home for the past 11 years. I am overjoyed to continue the work of supporting our staff, students, and families of Jackson-Via and continue the Jackrabbit legacy of inclusion and educational excellence while cultivating an environment where every student and staff member feels seen, supported and challenged to achieve their full potential."
